Firstly, I’m not the only one who’s not buying anything in 2010. There are more creative ways to go about not shopping though, such as this blogger who’s using her sowing machine to fix her old clothes instead of buying new (Norwegian blog). That’s a bit above my league I’m afraid, but definitely a great idea for people with sowing-skills!
Another good idea which could be applied to any type of possession is swapping-parties. Everybody brings their old stuff (CDs, clothes, records, books, kitchen equipment, films, furniture, magazines, electrical equipment, food, facebook-”friends”…and so on) and swap! To make it more fun, add some food and/or alcohol, some decent music and make a proper party out of it.
Alternative options: borrow, steal, buy used, get rid of the need for new stuff altogether.
